So, we had the very well known equine photographer, Barbara Livingston come to visit the farm. She's doing a book on horse colors and this farm has soooo many different colors it's insane.
She let me use her 70-200 lens and let me tag along while she took pictures. I got some nice tips and tricks.
Anyway I thought I'd share some of my favorites that I took while she was here.
RE Promise of Gold, perlino dun & a future dressage horse
 RE Speakeasy, smokey black
RE Coronado's Gold, perlino and a full brother to Promise
RE Lani Kula (Hawaiian for Heavenly Gold), buckskin roan
Savannah Mist, grulla snowflake, and her foal RE Antigua "Annie", dun sabino
Wayward Wind, bay sabino splash. 20 years old and jumping 4'6 oxer
Sire of Annie
RE Painted Lilly, grulla overo sabino. My filly!!!!
Blue Steel, not sure on color lol, and Utah Blaine, dun roan oveo
Cayuse Gold, buckskin dun. Sire of Promise, Lilly, Easy, Corry, Shandi, Lani, and Thunder.
RE Shenandoah "Shandi", unsure about color, full sister to Easy
Dunsmoke Maverick, black appy; RE Lonesome Thunder, bay roan; RE Choctaw Twister, dun snowflake; and RE Not So Blaine, dun roan overo. |

wow, well done! Stunning photos, and drop dead gorgeous subjects! I am such a huge fan of the spanish mustangs, I really wish that we actually had some around here. I would love to breed my Andi/Arab mare to that stallion, wow!
So how the heck do you get movement shots like that with no blur. I finally have a camera with both auto and manual settings but i have no idea what I am doing with the manual settings to get nice crisp movement shots like that!? |

Thanks, I'm beyond pleased with these pictures.
I know there's a woman in Canada, can't for the life of me remember where, but anywhere she has spanish mustangs and is breeding one of her mares to Cisco (Cayuse Gold) this year via cooled semen. Cisco has some scar tissue on his chest so he can't move as well as he should so most his offspring are better movers then he. I mean look at Promise!
One thing for sure is if you get into spanish mustangs KNOW THE BLOODLINES!!!!! There are some very good breeders that care about breed standard and temperament plus the health of the horses, then there are breeders who ship unsold horses to auctions and don't believe in giving hay plus breed totally unmanageable/untrained/wild horses.
Well camera do you have? I usually cheat and use Sport mode but when I go into manual my shutter speed is somewhere around 1/1000 and goes up to 1/1600. I ease myself into manual. With mine I can play with shutter speed while f-stop and ISO are still auto or play with f-stop while shutter and ISO are auto then mess with both shutter or f-stop and ISO and the final step is full manual. |
